1. Description of Carbon Fiber Nip Roll

The carbon fiber nip roll applied on high-speed slitter machines mainly serves three core functions: applying required pressing force, maintaining flat material surface, avoiding material slackness, and guaranteeing slitting precision.

Firstly, the nip roll provides essential pressing load during slitting processing for BOPP, BOPET and other thin films. As the winding roll diameter increases gradually, the nip roll position rises accordingly, and the pressing load decreases synchronously. When the winding diameter reaches a specific value, the pressure provided by the nip roll will drop to zero.

Secondly, the nip roll keeps the film flat during rewinding. Reasona

ble pressing force effectively eliminates surface waves and uneven defects, which is critical to guarantee final film quality.

Thirdly, it prevents material slackness throughout the slitting procedure. Continuous stable pressure maintains proper film tension, avoiding inaccurate cutting and film damage caused by loose materials.

2. How to Select a Proper Carbon Fiber Nip Roller for Your Film
1) For BOPP Film: Grooved or Non-grooved Layon Roller?

Grooves on the roller are designed to exhaust trapped air and eliminate film wrinkles.

1. Groove: Suitable for matt film, grooved design required

2. Hardness: 60-65 Shore A

3. Rubber Type: EPDM 10mm or PU 5mm

4. Crownning: No

2) For BOPET Film: Grooved or Non-grooved Layon Roller?

Grooves are not required for BOPET film. During high-speed slitting operation, centrifugal force may cause insufficient compression at the roller middle section, which easily leads to winding wrinkles. Therefore, a crowned roller with a slightly raised center is recommended to ensure uniform compression and reduce wrinkles. If customers do not accept crowned rollers, the rubber hardness can be increased to 70–75 Shore A to achieve the same effect and extend roller service life.
