As the European Union enforces stricter circular economy mandates, the capacity to process Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) has become a critical benchmark for national environmental infrastructure. On July 22, 2026, a specialized 1200-type dual-shaft shredder, custom-engineered by Huatao, was successfully installed and commissioned for a leading recycling enterprise in Lithuania, specifically targeting used computer mainframes and LCD monitors.
For the recycling industry, LCD monitors represent one of the most difficult material streams. Unlike homogeneous metal enclosures, monitors integrate fragile glass panels, liquid crystal electrolytes, mercury vapor backlight tubes, and diverse polymer plastics. Conventional shredding lines often struggle with such heterogeneous feed, leading to mechanical blockages, uneven particle sizes, and potential leakage of toxic substances.
Huatao’s approach moved beyond standardized equipment. Through comprehensive analysis of the client’s feed composition, output expectations, and operational environment, the engineering team developed a non-standard dual-shaft shredder with the following core innovations:
Utilizing high-grade wear-resistant alloy steel, the blade claws are configured to deliver a combined tearing and shearing action. This design effectively processes both ductile plastic bezels and brittle glass panels simultaneously, significantly reducing hazardous shard dispersion.
Equipped with a planetary gear reducer, the system provides consistent, substantial torque at reduced rotational speeds. This low-speed operation minimizes thermal degradation and volatilization of harmful gases, while permitting whole-unit feeding that eliminates costly manual pre-sorting.
An intelligent load-sensing system triggers automatic reversal upon encountering non-crushable metallic objects, protecting the main shaft from damage. The sealed crushing chamber, integrated with negative-pressure dust extraction, ensures full compliance with European occupational health and emission standards.
The new shredder achieves a throughput of 2.5 to 3.5 tons per hour, delivering consistent particle sizes that optimize downstream mechanical separation processes. This enables the client to significantly improve the purity of recovered copper, aluminum, and precious metals, thereby enhancing the economic viability of their entire recycling operation.
Huatao’s delivery to Lithuania exemplifies how Chinese-engineered recycling equipment, when meticulously customized, can meet the rigorous technical and environmental standards of the European market. This project underscores our commitment to providing intelligent, safe, and efficient WEEE pretreatment solutions.
