The plastic recycling industry faces many challenges during the processing of washed plastic materials, especially the removal of excess moisture after cleaning.
Washed plastic films, plastic flakes, and mixed recyclable materials often contain a large amount of water. This high moisture content increases transportation weight, reduces storage efficiency, and creates additional energy consumption during the following drying and pelletizing processes.
To overcome this challenge, a Screw Press Dewatering Machine was successfully applied in a plastic recycling facility, helping the customer achieve more efficient moisture removal and improve the overall recycling process.
Application Background and Operating Conditions
The customer’s recycling plant was processing large quantities of washed plastic film and mixed plastic flakes.
After the washing stage, the recycled materials retained a significant amount of water, making them difficult to transport and handle efficiently. The accumulated moisture also increased the workload of the thermal drying system and affected production efficiency.
To optimize the recycling line, the customer installed a screw press dewatering system directly after the washing process.
This integration allowed continuous moisture removal before the material entered the next production stage.
Working Principle of Screw Press Dewatering System
The screw press operates through continuous mechanical compression and filtration.
Wet plastic materials enter the dewatering chamber and are pushed forward by the rotating screw shaft. As the material moves through the chamber, the internal pressure gradually increases.
The separated water passes through the specially designed screen basket, while the plastic material is discharged with a significantly reduced moisture level.
The entire process runs automatically and continuously, ensuring stable operation without interrupting the recycling production line.
Results After Installation
After implementing the screw press dewatering solution, the customer achieved significant improvements:
- Reduced moisture content before thermal drying
- Lower energy consumption during drying operations
- Reduced transportation weight and logistics expenses
- Improved feeding stability for pelletizing equipment
- Continuous operation with reduced maintenance requirements
The screw press became an important part of the recycling workflow, helping the facility improve productivity while reducing overall operating costs.

Supporting Sustainable Plastic Recycling Development
As global demand for plastic recycling continues to grow, efficient moisture removal technology has become increasingly important for recycling plants.
A screw press is not only a dewatering device but also an effective solution for improving resource utilization, reducing energy consumption, and optimizing production efficiency.
For recycling facilities handling washed plastic films, woven bags, PET flakes, and other high-moisture recyclable materials, screw press technology can provide a reliable and cost-effective processing solution.
