Waste printed circuit boards (PCBs) are generated from computer motherboards, mobile phone circuit boards, electrical control boards, and industrial electronic equipment. Their complex structure — typically consisting of a resin substrate, glass fibre, copper foil, and electronic components — makes manual dismantling inefficient and inconsistent.
The integrated post-PCB electronic waste recycling plant uses a combination of equipment to carry out continuous processing.
Waste PCBs first undergo mechanical disassembly to remove larger electronic components. This pre-treatment step prepares material for downstream processing.
Disassembled material enters the crushing system, where high-speed rotating blades break PCBs into small particles suitable for sorting. A grinding mill then processes these particles into powder.
The ground mixture enters a multi-stage separation process, sorted according to differences in material density, electrical conductivity, and particle size. Equipment typically includes vibrating screens, air classifiers, magnetic separators, and electrostatic separators. This enables gradual separation of metal particles from non-metallic powders.
Primary recoverable metals in waste PCBs include copper, tin, nickel, and small quantities of precious metals. Non-metallic components consist mainly of glass fibre and resin powder.
Copper recovery relies primarily on separation techniques applied after pulverisation. Air classification equipment uses density differences to separate lightweight resin fibres from metal particles. Electrostatic separation equipment exploits conductivity differences to further purify fine metal particles.
Compared to traditional manual disassembly, automated PCB recycling equipment can continuously process large volumes of electronic waste and reduce the risk of human exposure to hazardous substances. For specialist e-waste treatment companies, equipment configuration can be adjusted according to raw material type, processing volume, and recovery objectives.
A complete PCB recycling plant typically comprises a conveyor system, disassembly equipment, crushers, grinders, a dust extraction system, screening equipment, air classification machines, and a control system. Plants of different scales can select different configuration options based on daily processing capacity.
In practice, PCB recycling focuses not only on metal extraction but must also meet environmental protection requirements. A comprehensive dust collection system reduces dust generated during crushing, enhancing safety in the production environment. An automated control system minimises manual intervention and improves equipment operation stability.
