A single shaft shredder is an industrial size-reduction machine designed to process bulky and irregular waste into smaller pieces suitable for subsequent recycling or treatment processes.

The equipment is commonly configured with a single rotating rotor, cutting knives, fixed counter-knives, hydraulic feeding system, screen, gearbox, motor and electrical control system.

During operation, material enters the feeding hopper and is moved toward the rotor by the hydraulic pusher. The rotor knives interact with fixed counter-knives to shear and tear the material.

After initial cutting, the material reaches the screen positioned beneath the rotor. Pieces that meet the required size can pass through the screen, while oversized material remains in the cutting chamber for additional processing. This design provides controlled discharge and helps produce a more consistent feed for downstream equipment.

Single shaft shredders can be configured for a wide range of recycling applications, including plastic lumps, pipes, containers, pallets, film rolls, woven bags, wood waste, rubber, paper, cardboard and selected industrial waste.

In plastic recycling plants, shredded material may subsequently enter washing, drying, granulation or extrusion processes. In wood processing, the output can be prepared for further screening or utilization. Other configurations can support industrial waste and selected RDF/SRF preparation.

Screen selection is an important part of machine configuration. The opening size influences the particle size that can leave the cutting chamber.

Rotor design, knife geometry, motor power, feeding pressure and material characteristics also affect capacity and shredding performance. Therefore, the screen should be selected according to the required output and downstream process.
