Within a BOPET (Biaxially Oriented Polyethylene Terephthalate) film casting unit, the chill roll (or cast roll) acts as the operational heartbeat. It stands as the single most critical component determining downstream cast sheet quality, micro-structural uniformities, optical clarity, and overall extrusion line stability.
With decades of specialized industrial roller manufacturing experience, Huatao Group supplies premium, tailored BOPET chill rolls engineered to meet international standards—empowering global film producers to upgrade film properties, maximize throughput, and reduce lifecycle operational costs.
Unlike alternative polymers, PET resin requires an exceptionally harsh thermal transition. The melt exits the extrusion die at 280°C to 300°C and must be rapidly quenched down to 70°C to 80°C within a tight window of 0.1 to 0.5 seconds.
To stabilize this severe thermal shock at high speeds without inducing physical stress or gauge bands in the sheet, Huatao Group chill rolls utilize three core engineering advantages:
Our proprietary, staggered internal spiral flow channel geometry completely eliminates internal fluid dead zones while multiplying active heat exchange efficiency. This maintains a uniform surface temperature tolerance of ±0.5℃ across the entire roll face, even when integrated into ultra-wide or high-speed lines running at 300 to 600 m/min. The system utilizes a closed-loop deionized water architecture to avoid scaling and long-term thermal resistance build-up.
For optical-grade, solar-backsheet, or high-end packaging BOPET films, surface defects are unacceptable. We start with heavy-duty, high-strength alloy steel bases, followed by a thick electroplated hard chrome layer (≥120um) achieving a hardness of 60–62 HRC. Precision multi-stage mirror grinding yields an ultra-flawless surface finish of Ra 0.005um to Ra 0.01um, enabling pristine web transfer with exceptionally low haze and high gloss.
High-speed extrusion lines running up to 600 m/min are highly susceptible to centrifugal harmonics. Every chill roll undergoes strict dynamic balancing up to G0.4–G1 standards, effectively neutralizing structural vibrations. This limits total mechanical runout tolerance to <0.02mm, cutting out high-frequency gauge fluctuations and safeguarding cross-directional thickness consistency.
