Plastic sheet production requires extensive cooling. As extruded sheets exit the heated chamber and die, the plastic retains most of its heat due to poor thermal conductivity. Double shell heat transfer rolls efficiently draw heat away from the hot plastic sheet. By guiding the sheet in an "S" pattern through three to five chill rolls (horizontal or vertical orientation), the temperature is reduced to optimal levels. The quality of these chill rolls directly impacts sheet thickness, surface texture, and gloss finish.
